Seasonal guide
Wasp Season in Cork: What to Expect
Wasp nests follow the seasons. Knowing the stage helps you act before it becomes an emergency.
April – May
Queens wake up
A single queen starts a golf-ball sized nest in sheds, eaves and attics. Easiest time to treat.
June – July
Nests grow fast
Hundreds of workers. You'll notice a steady line of wasps going in and out of one spot.
August – September
Peak wasp season
Nests can hold thousands. Wasps are hungry and aggressive — most stings and callouts happen now.
October – November
Nests die off
Workers die with the frost. Old nests aren't reused, but new queens may overwinter nearby.
Do I need to remove it?
A nest far from people can sometimes be left until autumn. If it's near a door, window, play area, or anyone with an allergy, have it treated straight away.
